Using RSS to share union news

Union Newswire is a new site from the TUC. It's very much in betai (meaning it's likely to fall over at a moment's notice), but could be an interesting model for other union groups to look at.

IBEW social media organising video

Let's hear your Congress Voices - social media at TUC Congress

Congress Voices is an experimental social media portal for the TUC's annual conference of UK unions. It collates blogis, tweets and photos from around the web, putting users at the event and outside the event in touch with each others' comments. Site visitors can discuss the motions under debate for the first time.

Connecting Activists - Forum presentation

Here's a copy of my presentation on social networking for unions - both what union activists are doing with commercial social networks, and what unions could do to make social networking tools for our own activists.

Get Creative!

Creative Unions is a great new network for people interested in swapping examples of how unions can use great design to get their message across. Add your own examples and vote on others, or just use it to get inspiration. www.creativeunions.org

Viral Fraternalism

A challenge to us from social media consultant Paulie of Memeserver.co.uk. He thinks unions are better positioned than anyone to make use of social media, due to the inherantly social nature of our organisations.

As mutual support organisations, our members will want to pull together with us online too, and we'll be able to leverage loads of lovely 2.0 buzz, giving real validity to our work online in a way corporates would have to fake. That's the theory anyway:

Spanish union body launches Second Life facility

The Spanish union learning organisation FOREM (part of CCOO) have developed an island in Second Lifei. It's fairly new, but they have already used it for briefings of union activists - showing advice videos on a screen in an SL arena, and following them up with discussion. You can find a teleport link to the island on the ccoonectate site
